NovaDB 5.4: Revised workflows for greater clarity and flexibility
Optimized work packages and work lists create transparent processes and reduce complexity in everyday work.
With Release 5.4, Noxum GmbH introduces key improvements to NovaDB workflows. Work packages and work lists have been fundamentally revised and more closely integrated. The aim is to make processes more understandable, streamlined, and universally applicable. The release is complemented by new customization options, functional enhancements, and updates to performance, security, and technical infrastructure.
Würzburg, January 15, 2026 – Noxum GmbH, a specialist in content management and editorial systems, has released NovaDB 5.4. The focus of this release is on revising the workflows related to work packages and work lists. Both elements are now more closely interlinked and form the basis for transparent, traceable work processes.
The aim of the realignment is to streamline workflows while making them flexible enough to be used in as many scenarios as possible. Users benefit from clearer structures and easier application in their daily work.
Clearer workflows for versatile application scenarios
With NovaDB 5.4 the handling of work packages and work lists has been specifically equalized. New icons allow quick access to favorites, work packages or recently opened content. A new panel display provides a compact overview of the current work package. The name, person responsible and due date are immediately visible. Central actions are directly available, including
- Edit
- Change status
- Update
- Publish
- Delete
In addition, a filterable work list shows all content that needs to be edited as part of this work package. This allows users to maintain an overview at all times, reduce search effort and complete changes faster and in a targeted manner. This is supplemented by direct access to the log view, which means that the status and history can be tracked at all times.
Overall, the handling of work packages has been simplified and made more intuitive, with clear responsibilities, leaner processes and targeted tidying mechanisms that facilitate collaboration and noticeably reduce administrative effort.
Fine-grained rights and clean work packages
Another key element is extended workflow status rights. Rights can now be assigned directly within the workflow at various points, including clearly defined transitions, e.g., between approval and publication. In exceptional cases, authorized user groups can specifically override workflow rules. This creates transparency, clear responsibilities, and security in collaboration, while also allowing for flexible exceptions without undermining approval processes or responsibilities.
Another new feature is the concept of work packages for content that has already been published. Changes to this content result in the creation of a separate work package. After approval and publication, this is automatically deleted if necessary. This allows multiple users to work together in a more coordinated manner. Changes are clearly delineated and overlaps are avoided. This facilitates coordination within the team and reduces conflicts when working in parallel.
Visual Editor with more design freedom
NovaDB 5.4 brings further improvements for editors and designers: Razor templates now support various output formats. A new object type for stylesheets enables the management of look and feel in independent objects. In addition, modules can be converted directly into other module types, for example, a text block into an introduction block. This makes visual editing more efficient and reduces manual adjustments.
Visual components can be designed more flexibly and can now be assigned one or more CSS classes. This allows editors to select different display variants for the same content module, such as a product in the standard view or prominently as a promotional offer as part of a discount campaign. This keeps content consistent and eliminates the need for additional maintenance work due to variants or copies.
The interaction between the Visual Editor and PIM (Product Information Management) has been further improved. Users can jump directly from the Visual Editor to referenced product data or warnings in PIM. This shortens paths, facilitates corrections, and increases data consistency.
The release is rounded off by an extended search function, which now also allows queries for fields with set values via a drop-down selection.
Stable basis for future developments
In addition to the functional innovations, NovaDB 5.4 includes comprehensive performance and security improvements. The technical basis has also been updated and further developed to ensure that NovaDB remains stable and future-proof in the long term.
